Feanor by Venlian Feanor by Venlian
Feanor is one of the key characters of J.R.R. Tolkien’s “Silmarillion”. His image is varied and excites discrepant feelings. His deeds had an influence on the history of all future Middle Earth. His strong and insolent spirit made him in some way similar to a human. He could burn fire in hearts and gave a way to his own passions.
Feanor is a Noldor King, the creator of Silmarills.

I depicted him not in the king’s attire and not in the smart cloths – here he is a skilled warrior who threw down a challenge even to Valars, he is in a simple marching cloths only the crown shows us his high status – that’s how I see him.

His sons:

Fingon

This character is used to be so unfairly tired out in a framework of villain and madman, thereby it simplifies and distorts all that Tolkien wanted to put into this character. I’m crazily happy that this picture shows Feanor in a way that he instantly causes sympathy, despite the discrepancy of his character. He is not like classical pretty elf; he is much more similar to a human of 40 years. He’s got a strong, imperious, sexual, rigid and outstanding personality. He’s got burning eyes. He is all the embodiment of fire, and at the same time his internal madness is not too much that’s why he really attracts. I like that he isn't handsome in it’s classical meaning, his handsomeness is special - it is a combination of courage, cruelty, probably, even roughness, and at the same time, it is impossible to doubt that you see the real man, the skilled warrior and the king who is loved, followed and adored. It seems to me that the excellence of the artist is that she rendered his burning irrepressible soul ideally. And this character again becomes interesting, deep, passionate and vivid. Not good and not bad. Just a man you admire despite of everything.

I will not give you a critique, if only because I have not ventured to submit anything requiring a critique myself. I will leave that for the professional hypocrites. :) (Smile)  However, this time you really hit it out of the ballpark! This image really is Feanor at the dramatic height of his story, at the time when Hubris sinks its claws into him. His innate power, recognized talent, and arrogance born of those characteristics are stamped upon his visage. And yet, he is a king who can compel others to follow him, even those who don't have a direct loyalty or direct benefit to do so. Even so, something of the fey mood Tolkien ascribed to him post-theft is present. He is not looking at the center, but off and away, his thoughts centered on his stolen prizes and his need for revenge on a murdering thief, regardless of the cost.

This really is an intelligent, insightful portrait of Feanor. I am fascinated by your portrayal! He is so fierce, and not 'pretty' in the usual fandom sense, but definitely beautiful. Such an amazing piece of work!

This is absolutely stunning! Feanor has always been my favourite character in the whole Tolkien Universe. You've given him such a powerful, yet at the same time haunted expression - I completely agree with everything the person wrote in the critique! This is just simply awesome! :wow: :dalove:
